Paper And Technology Meet In Revolutionary New Neenah Swatch Pro™ Extension For Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
Designers are among the most imaginative and innovative among us, capable of creating wondrous works of art and essential collateral others can only dream of. While graphic design has evolved immensely over the last 2,000 years from cave drawings to computers, the essence is still the same. In graphic design, "the essence is to give order to information, form to ideas, expression, and feeling to artifacts that document human experience.” In today’s world, communication and expression have to be developed faster to feed the pace of consumerism.
As the world continually changes and develops, so does design. With those changes comes progress and innovation. The way we go about design today is vastly different, even from the invention of the printing press. Our ancestors couldn’t fathom the technological advancements to which we have access. The Neenah Swatch Pro Adobe extension started with an idea to free up time for more creative exploration.
Neenah has been providing ASE (Adobe Swatch Exchange) files on neenahpaper.com for over 10 years, allowing designers to download accurate color swatches from Neenah's broad portfolio of papers. While the color formulas were entirely accurate, the texture part was missing.
Dallas Franklin, Creative Director for Neenah, says, “We were scanning papers, uploading iPhone photos, and manually creating a paper layer to share our visions with clients. We realized that so many other designers must’ve been struggling with the process, as well. We approached Adobe with the idea to create a tool that allowed designers to integrate paper color AND texture into a design with the click of a button within the Adobe Creative Cloud.”
Adobe introduced Neenah to 6kites, a trusted developer of Adobe extensions, and a partnership was born. 6kites was drawn to working with Neenah due to the innovative nature of the project.
"Building Adobe extensions is always exciting and challenging. Our software engineers need to have a deep understanding of the capabilities of Adobe products, along with our customer's expectations, and then bring it all together in a small panel within the product. For Neenah, this involved developing new ways of handling images and allowing users to select from an extensive collection of paper realistically. In the Neenah Swatch Pro™, we were able to integrate Neenah colors and textures with a design seamlessly," says Herb Morreale, Founder & CEO, 6kites.
