Basis Weight is the weight of a sheet based on standard size. The number corresponding with each weight refers to the thickness and sturdiness of the paper, not the actual weight of the sheet. The higher the weight the thicker and stiffer the paper. Writing papers (W) are lighter-weight papers often used for letterheads and stationery. Text papers (T) are lighter-weight papers for use as text pages, for example within books and reports. Cover papers (C) are durable, heavier-weight papers, available in a variety of finishes and colors.
