Three colors in four passes
The black is printed in two passes, first the large type and then the small type. Larger areas of coverage need to have much more ink on press than fine delicate lines do. Too much ink would make the small type look furry or blobby, sacrificing crispness. Too little ink would have meant that the large letters wouldn't be a deep, saturated black.
